Gloucester: First Spirit of Peace event “Vigil for Peace”

Date:  July 2011

Venue: Ribston High School

Fourteen people from across Gloucestershire attended the first Spirit of Peace “Space to Reflect” evening at Ribston Hall High School in Gloucester.

With the horrors of Norway a few days earlier, the drop-in vigil style event also reflected on other areas of the world, including Israel-Palestine where conflict and peacemaking are part of daily life.

Following the lighting of a large candle with words for reflection, each person took a smaller candle placing it on a country of their choice on a map of the world. Personal pictures and readings were also shared

Interfaith Minister Neesa Copple said “it was a very moving evening with deep silences along with inspirational and passionate conversation about people and places dear to our hearts”

Local Spirit of Peace Coordinator David Bennett says ” It was a very powerful evening. There was also much concern and conversation about the challenges facing the whole continent of Africa. We thought about many people in different countries and sent our love and light to everyone”.
